Ohio approves work at four grade crossings

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization at four highway-rail grade crossings in Athens, Jefferson, Wood and Fairfield counties.

Norfolk Southern will install flashing lights and warning gates at the State Route 13 grade crossing in the village of Chauncey, Athens County. Funding for this upgrade will be shared among PUCO, the railroad and the Ohio Rail Development Commission. NS will be responsible for completing construction by April 24, 2014.

NS will also install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Carroll Northern Road/County Road 36 grade crossing in Fairfield County. The railroad will be responsible for completing construction of the upgrade by January 10, 2014.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Company will add a flasher assembly on the right hand side of the Third Street grade crossing in the village of Tiltonsville, Jefferson County.

CSX Transportation will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Roundhead Road/Township Road 37 grade crossing in Milton Township, Wood County. The railroad will be responsible for completing construction of the upgrade by January 24, 2014.

Funding for all projects will be provided by federal funds.
