The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) directing the installation of mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at rail crossings in Allen, Sandusky and Wood counties.

CSX will upgrade the crossings at Miller Road/Township Road 180 in Monroe Township, Allen County and at Hannah Road/Township Road 212, Washington Township, Wood County.

Norfolk Southern will upgrade the crossing at Flora Road/Township Road 220 in Green Creek Township, Sandusky County.

All three of the grade-crossing improvement projects are to be completed by Oct. 6, 2016. Federal funding for these projects is provided through the ORDC.

To increase public safety during the construction of the projects, local governments may seek funding from PUCO for the cost of safety improvements such as rumble strips, illumination, improved signage or other enhancements at the project location. Funding for such improvements comes from the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund and may not exceed $5,000 per project.
