The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization at four highway-rail grade crossings in Crawford, Darke, Medina and Preble counties.

Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Malcolm Road/Township Road grade crossing in Crawford County.

NS will also relocate the flasher-gate mechanisms in the northwest and southeast quadrants and replace the existing 16-foot gate arms with 22-foot gate arms at the Park Avenue grade crossing in the city of Eaton, Preble County.

CSX will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Younker Road/Township Road grade crossing in Darke County.

NS and CSX will be responsible for completing construction on all three upgrades by March 5, 2014.

CSX will also install active grade crossing warning devices at the Buffham Road grade crossing in Medina County. Funding for this upgrade will be shared among PUCO, the railroad, the county, the township and the Ohio Rail Development Commission. CSX will be responsible for completing construction by June 5, 2014.
