The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization at three highway-rail grade crossings in Licking, Stark and Wood counties.

Columbus & Ohio River Railroad (CUOH) will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the 30th Street grade crossing in the city of Newark, Licking County.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway (W&LE) will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Park Street grade crossing in the village of Navarre, Stark County.

CUOH and W&LE will be responsible for completing construction for both crossings by April 2, 2014.

CSX will modernize the warning system at the U.S. 20/Fremont Pike grade crossing in Wood County. CSX will be responsible for completing the project by Jan. 3, 2014.

To increase public safety during the construction of the projects, PUCO will assist the local governments with the cost of improvements such as rumble strips, illumination, improved signage or other safety enhancements at the project locations. Funding for the improvements will come from the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund and will not exceed $5,000.
