California's Sacramento Regional Transit District (SACRT) has activated high voltage wires above the light-rail tracks along the Blue Line to Cosumnes River College (CRC) light-rail extension currently under construction.

The overhead catenary system (OCS) carries 950 volts of electricity and SACRT is advising the public to stay clear of the tracks and equipment and remain more than 10 feet from wires and poles. SACRT has partnered with Operation Lifesaver to promote light-rail safety as part of the “See Tracks? Think Train!” initiative.

Activating the OCS is needed before train activity and testing begins later this month. Test trains will operate between the Meadowview light-rail station and Cosumnes River College. Testing may take place at any time during the day or night and will continue until the opening of the Blue Line to CRC in September 2015.

The $270 million Blue Line to CRC project, which will extend light-rail 4.3 miles south from the Meadowview Station to the new Cosumnes River College Station, includes four new light rail stations: Morrison Creek, Franklin, Center Parkway and Cosumnes River College.
