Because of the work, the safety fence dividing the tracks has to be taken down, said Steve Forsberg, BNSF general director of public affairs. Metra trains are required to blow the horns when passing through the area when the safety fence is down, and residents should expect to hear the horns at night.
Forsberg said the track work will involve the railroad ties along the BNSF line and at some of the crossings. He said someone will direct road traffic across the track crossings.
