BNSF's 2016 capital expenditure program in Colorado will be nearly $100 million, which will be focused on maintenance projects that help ensure BNSF continues to operate a safe and reliable network.

The railroad says its 2016 program will also bring capital investments more in line with forecasted customer freight service demand. The largest component of this year’s capital plan in the state will be for replacing and upgrading rail, ties and ballast.

“BNSF is committed to maintaining and improving our rail network in Colorado,” said Mike Sickler, BNSF general manager of operations, Powder River Division. “These capital investments will benefit our customers, as well as the communities near BNSF rail lines, ensuring a safe and reliable network in Colorado.”

BNSF’s maintenance program in Colorado includes approximately 860 miles of track surfacing and/or undercutting work, the replacement of about 15 miles of rail and more than 115,000 ties, as well as signal upgrades for positive train control. This year’s program follows more than $250 million invested by BNSF in its network in Colorado over the past three years.
