The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) has made a $100,000 investment for construction of a rail spur in Marmaduke, Ark.

The spur will be constructed along a Union Pacific line, which will increase access to the town’s two industrial sites and allow existing industries to maintain operations there.

The investment comes as part of the DRA’s 2014 States’ Economic Development Assistance Program, which makes strategic investments in Delta communities to support local and regional economic development projects. The notice to proceed allows each community partner to begin project work outlined in the DRA investment narrative.

“In Marmaduke, the construction of a rail spur will provide much needed logistical support to local industry, including American Railcar Industries,” said Melissa Rivers, executive director of East Arkansas Planning & Development District.
