KCS improves fluidity with work on Laredo Subdivision

Written by jrood

Last week, a Kansas City Southern production gang completed a 50-day effort to install 100,000 crossties and 4.5 track miles of new rail to replace the 112-pound rail in curves. The production gang also renewed crossings and surfaced the track between mileposts 22 and 147 (approximately West Killam to Robstown, Texas) on the Laredo Subdivision.

This week, the production gang will move to the Vicksburg Subdivision between Shreveport and Monroe, La. This work is expected to be completed by the end of May. The gang will install 66,000 ties and replace approximately four miles of 112-pound rail in curves.

Upon completion of the trackwork on the Laredo Subdivision, fluidity of cross border traffic between the U.S. and Mexico immediately improved. Completion of maintenance on the Meridian Speedway between Shreveport and Monroe will further improve safety and service on KCS’ International Intermodal Corridor.
