Kansas City Southern will increase train speeds along its Laredo Subdivision from 49 to 59 mph. The subdivision runs from Laredo to Corpus Christi, Texas and the speed increase is possible due to recent track improvements.

KCS invested approximately $18 million into the line this year. Work included the installation of approximately 80,000 crossties; replacement of approximately six miles of rail; enhancements to approximately 177 road crossings and structural steel improvements at the International Bridge at Laredo.

The railroad said there are some exceptions on the Laredo Subdivision line where the speed will not increase. Exceptions include the KCS yard limits on either end of the line, as well as the communities of Mirando City, Hebbronville, Benavides, San Diego, Agua Dulce, Banquete and Robstown.
