The town of Cary, N.C., North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and CSX are teaming up to give a major intersection in Cary a facelift.

Beginning July 14 and lasting for consecutive 28 days, Cary Parkway across the CSX railroad track at Old Apex Road will close to allow contractors to safely complete railroad crossing, traffic signal and pedestrian improvements. This portion of intersection is expected to reopen mid-August with new asphalt, 300 linear feet of new sidewalk, eight upgraded traffic signals, eight new pedestrian signals and marked crosswalks. Roughly $490,000 in Cary’s Capital funding is allocated for these railroad crossing repairs.

“Understanding the vital role these streets play for our business owners and residents, we’re committed to working safely, efficiently and effectively as possible to complete the project on time and within budget,” said Bob Shultes, Town of Cary Transportation Engineer. “We worked hard to find a way to complete this work without having to entirely close Cary Parkway in both directions for this project, but after consulting with both NCDOT Rail Division and CSX, instituting a full closure was necessary in order to be time sensitive and cost effective.”
