NS’ Drake to retire, Wheeler and Evans named to key positions

Norfolk Southern Corp. announced that Timothy Drake, vice president engineering, is retiring, effective Oct. 31.

Michael Wheeler, formerly vice president transportation, has been named vice president engineering to succeed Drake and Terry Evans, formerly vice president process engineering, will follow Wheeler as vice president transportation.

Drake, vice president engineering since 2007, is a veteran of 36 years with NS. He joined the company as an assistant track supervisor and served in a variety of engineering positions on the rail system.

“Tim Drake and his team, quite simply, have set the standard for safe, reliable rail infrastructure in this country,” said CEO Wick Moorman. “We truly appreciate Tim’s contributions and service.”

Wheeler joined NS in 1985 as a research engineer. He served in positions of increasing responsibility in operations before being named vice president transportation in 2009.

Evans joined NS in 1979 as a management trainee in the operations division. He served in positions of increasing responsibility in operations before being named vice president process engineering in 2009.

“Terry and Mike bring a range of valuable experience to their positions and will help lead the way as our shippers and receivers come to rely even more on the railroad industry as the backbone of the economy,” Moorman said.

Wheeler and Evans will report to Mark Manion, executive vice president operations. Their appointments are effective Nov. 1.
