Members of the Unifor shopcraft group representing 2,100 Canadian National car mechanics, heavy-duty equipment mechanics and electricians, have ratified a four-year labor agreement.

The shopcraft group’s ratification follows earlier ratification of 51-month term contracts by Unifor’s clerical/intermodal, Savage Alberta Railway, excavator-operator and CNTL owner-operator members at CN.

Unifor represents 4,800 CN employees in four bargaining units at CN.

“We are pleased that we have renewed the final collective agreement with Unifor in the current round of bargaining,” said Jim Vena, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of CN. “This shopcraft agreement allows us to continue our efforts to improve efficiency and customer service.”

All agreements were reached with assistance from the Labour Program’s Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The FMCS provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
