Union Pacific working on infrastructure in Iowa, Illinois

Union Pacific is enhancing Illinois and Iowa's transportation infrastructure with a $24 million investment.

UP is investing $11 million in the rail line that runs between Nelson and near Manlius in Illinois. The project is in progress and is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. The 22-mile project includes replacing the rail and eight switches.

UP is also investing more than $13 million in the rail line that runs between Boone and Westside in Iowa. The project is in progress and is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. The 66-mile project includes replacing more than 64,000 crossties, spreading 31,700 tons of, renewing the surfaces at 74 crossings and replacing a total of three miles of rail in various curves.
