Union Pacific is enhancing transportation infrastructure in Colorado and Wyoming by investing more than $19 million.

In Colorado, UP will invest $10 million in the rail line that runs between Winter Park to just west of Kremmling. The project is in progress and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

The 56-mile project includes replacing about two miles of rail in various curves, as well as renewing the surfaces at 39 grade crossings. In addition, crews will be replacing 44,400 crossties, spreading 24,900 tons of ballast and making more than a half mile of improvements in tunnels.

Additionally, in Wyoming, UP will invest more than $9 million in the rail line that runs between Egbert and the Wyoming/Nebraska state line near Lyman, Neb. The project is in progress and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.
The 79-mile project includes replacing nearly 66,000 ties, spreading 44,800 tons of ballast and renewing the surfaces at 62 grade crossings.

UP plans to invest $3.6 billion in its rail network during 2012, supporting America’s current and future freight transportation needs and enhancing the safety and efficiency of the railroad’s 32,000-mile network.
