UP plans $92 million investment in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico properties in 2015

Union Pacific plans to invest about $23 million in its infrastructure in Nevada, $46 million in Arizona and $23 million in New Mexico.

 

The company says its investment will enhance employee, community and customer safety and increase rail operating efficiency in all three states.

UP’s planned investment in Nevada covers a range of initiatives including $20 million to maintain track, $2 million to enhance signal systems and $720,000 to maintain or replace bridges in the state.

Key projects include an investment of $12.4 million in the rail line between Sparks and Winnemucca to replace 110,718 ties, install 61,061 tons of ballast and repair the surfaces at 16 road crossings and an investment of $2.3 million in the rail line between Caliente and Las Vegas to replace 3,715 concrete ties, install 2,981 tons of ballast and replace two miles of rail in various curves throughout the line.

UP’s planned investment in Arizona covers nearly $40 million to maintain track, $500,000 to enhance signal systems and $5 million to maintain or replace bridges in the state.

Key projects include an investment of $17.9 million in the rail line between Tucson and the Arizona-New Mexico state line to replace 150,295 ties, install 56,448 tons of ballast and repair the surfaces at 33 road crossings; and investment of $7.9 million in the rail line between Maricopa and Yuma to replace more than 14 miles of rail and nearly one mile of rail in various curves and repair the surfaces at 2 road crossings and an investment of $1.8 million in the rail line between Tucson and Benson to replace more than two miles of rail in various curves.

Union Pacific’s planned investment in New Mexico covers a range of initiatives including $21 million to maintain track, $120,000 to enhance signal systems and nearly $2 million to maintain or replace bridges in the state.

Key projects planned include and investment of $4.6 million in the rail line between the Arizona-New Mexico state line and Santa Teresa to replace 34,453 concrete ties and install 1,418 tons of rock ballast; investment of $3 million in the rail line between Tucumari and Las Palomas to replace nearly six miles of rail and an investment of $5 million in the rail line south of Orogrande to replace 37,534 ties, install 19,298 tons of ballast and repair the surfaces at five road crossings.
