Jim Hertwig, Florida East Coast Railway's (FEC) president and chief executive officer and Juan Kuryla, director and CEO of PortMiami, met with Panama Canal officials and toured the construction site for the canal expansion, which is scheduled to be completed in April 2016.

“We are pleased to see continued progress on this important initiative, which will offer new opportunities for shippers. FEC and PortMiami have made infrastructure improvements and are well positioned to serve customers once the expansion is complete,” said Hertwig.

“Our goal is to facilitate the process of cargo shipments for fast and efficient delivery to our customers,” said Kuryla. “Through our partnership with FEC, we are expanding access for shipments coming into and out of the port to reach their final destinations seamlessly and with greater reliability.”

PortMiami has resumed on-dock rail service, added super post Panamax cranes and expects to complete its -50/52 foot dredge in 2015.
