Illinois Railway voted to make the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) the designated collective bargaining representative for its 21 train and engine service employees; the election results were certified by the National Mediation Board on August 7.

BLET National President Dennis Pierce welcomed the new Illinois Railway workers and thanked them for voting BLET. He also said contract negotiations with rail management would begin as quickly as possible.

Illinois Railway members will hold membership in BLET Division 682 (Hammond, Ind.) and will belong to the BLET’s Indiana Harbor Belt General Committee of Adjustment. The railroad is comprised of four track segments aggregating 113 miles of track located just west of the Chicago suburbs.
