Patriot Rail Company yesterday appointed Matthew Reddell as vice president and chief safety officer. Reddell joined the company in January 2015 as vice president and chief mechanical officer.

A veteran of the rail industry for 15 years, he is now expected to lead safety efforts relating to all of the company’s rail services holdings as Patriot Rail’s senior safety executive. He joins the Senior Leadership Team reporting to John E. Fenton, president and CEO.

“Matthew is a highly regarded leader in our industry, and has built a well-deserved reputation as a zealous guardian of employee safety,” Fenton said. “He brings a keen understanding of what it takes to deliver top results the right way—by creating a just culture where people willingly engage in the mission. I know he will use those abilities to engage the entire workforce as we pursue our goal of an absolute culture of safety.”

Reddell has previously held several transportation, engineering, mechanical and procurement roles with Amtrak, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific, RailAmerica, Genesee & Wyoming and Bombardier.

Also a military veteran, Reddell is currently assigned to U.S. Army Central Command and serves as an Armored Cavalry Officer. He received his Master of Science in Industrial Technology from the Command and General Staff College and is certified in Quality and Lean Manufacturing, as well.
