Pacific Harbor Line (PHL), a subsidiary railroad of Anacostia Rail Holdings (ARH), hosted a tour for several guests, including Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Administrator Sarah Feinberg, Region 7 Regional Administrator James Jordan and Linda Darr, President of the American Short Line Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA).

The March 29, 2016, visit to the Wilmington, Calif.-based railroad was a first for both Feinberg and Darr and served as an opportunity to shed light on the integral role that shortline railroads play within the chain of transportation. Presentations during the meeting also focused on the strong commitment that PHL, as well as all ARH affiliate railroads, have to safety.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the group was led on a tour of PHL’s locomotive repair facility and the Badger Bridge train dispatching office.

“Both the administrator and the president of ASLRRA left with good understanding of what it takes for PHL and its Class 1 rail partners (BNSF and Union Pacific) to properly service the nation’s largest and busiest port complex,” stated PHL President Otis Cliatt.

“The visit was a great insight into the work culture and work ethic of an impressive shortline,” said Darr. “Everyone seemed to take pride in and have great energy about their mission. Otis and his team have a lot to be proud of.”

Pacific Harbor Line provides rail transportation, track maintenance and train dispatching services to the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. PHL also provides rail switching services for on-dock intermodal terminals and dispatching services for about 140 intermodal and unit trains per day.
