Patriot Rail, TC&W name new executives

Patriot Rail Corp. hired George Avery Grimes, PE, Ph.D., to its management team as executive vice president and chief strategy officer. Grimes will be responsible for revenue growth through initiation and evaluation of strategic acquisitions, infrastructure investments and margin expansion opportunities. He will also be Patriot Rail's liaison with Class 1 railroad strategic projects.

Grimes brings more than 36 years of experience in the rail transportation industry. His expertise includes organizational restructuring, investment analysis, strategic planning, transportation operations, railroad engineering, railroad economics, railroad finance and business development.

Grimes has served in a number of senior level positions at Class 1 railroads Missouri Pacific, Union Pacific and Kansas City Southern. Most recently, Grimes served as Deputy CEO at Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s Metrolink and at Chicago-area’s Metra.

The Twin Cities & Western Railroad Company appointed David Long vice president marketing and sales, effective November 19, with responsibility for TC&W’s sales, marketing, customer service and economic development activities. He is based at Glencoe, Minn., headquarters of the regional railroad, which operates 229 route miles of track.

Long has more than 30 years of railroad experience and rejoins the TC&W from the Indiana Rail Road, where had been assistant vice president and vice president, marketing and sales since 2003. He previously was general manager marketing and vice president marketing and sales for the TC&W from 1992 until 1998.

In addition to marketing and sales, his experience includes transloading, third party switching, equipment management and quality control.
