The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay Port Commission has selected David Koch as its new chief executive officer. Koch has been serving as the port's interim CEO since December 2011 and the port's chief operating officer starting in October 2010.

Prior to that, he practiced as an attorney with North Bend-based Stebbins & Coffey, Attorneys at Law, from 2006-2010, handling legal issues for the port and several other public entities.

Koch steps into this position at a time of transition for the Port, as it strengthens its role as the owner of the Coos Bay Rail Line and advocates for diversification of maritime commerce. He will be tasked with helping the port attract private investment in the rail line that connects the Coos Bay harbor and regional manufacturers with the national freight rail system. In addition, under Koch’s guidance, the port will move forward with the Oregon Gateway multi-purpose cargo berth development and completion of the deep-draft channel modification study.

In other Port of Coos Bay news, an intent to award notice was posted by the port for its 2012 Major Track Rehabilitation Project. Balfour Beatty Rail Inc. is the supplier of choice that offered the lowest responsible bid for the project and the port will officially accept the bid at its commission meeting on June 21.
