Watco adds new managers to Australian, Louisiana railroads

Watco Western Australia Rail (WWAR) hired Grant Thompson as vice president commercial and Watco Transportation Services promoted Cory Smith to general manager for the Louisiana Southern Railroad (LAS).

Thompson will focus on contract management, strategic and operational business planning and business relationships involving government, shires and below rail entities; rate and price development relative to contract variations and long-term strategy for business growth.

Smith will be responsible for the day-to-day opera¬tions on the LAS, including achieving performance goals with optimum safety, economy, ef¬ficiency and effectiveness.

Smith joined the Watco team in April of 2012 as the trainmaster of the LAS Minden terminal where he was responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of all opera¬tional activities within his assigned territory. Prior to joining Watco, his past experiences include four years as a conductor at Utah Railway and three years as operations manager for Rail Link.
