Watco appoints VP of operations, transportation services and regional VP of operations for East Region

Watco Transportation Services appointed Steve Coomes to vice president of operations, transportation services. He will be responsible for the continued development and improvement of safety, service, growth, people, asset utilization and efficiency in all areas of Watco Transportation Services. This will cover both railroad and switching sites.

 

Coomes joined the Watco Team in March of 2013 as East Region director of mechanical services. He began his railroad career 26 years ago as a car repairman at the Kyle Railroad Company in Phillipsburg, Kan. The Kyle was eventually purchased by RailAmerica and Steve continued his railroad career with RailAmerica at various locations. He held positions such as general manager for the following railroads: Kyle Railroad, San Joaquin Valley Railroad, San Luis and Rio Grande, New England Central, Connecticut Southern and Alabama Gulf Coast Railroad.

Watco also promoted Doug Halverson has accepted the position to regional vice president of operations for the East Region. He will be responsible for the continued development and improvement of safety, service, growth, people and efficiency in all areas of the East Region.

Halverson joined the Watco Team in May of 2012 as the director of operations for the East Region. He previously worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation and successor companies as strategic sourcing specialist-rail, operations manager and division manager.
