Watco Transportation Services promoted Michael Gibson to vice president of transportation safety. Gibson will begin his duties in the position on August 1 and will also serve as interim Gulf Regional vice president of operations until that position is filled.

As vice president of transportation safety, Gibson’s responsibilities include leading the transportation

safety team in safety training, certification and re-certification training, safety record keeping, safety metric recording and analysis, safety incident solutions and proposals and field monitoring and mentoring with managers and field team members. The primary goal is to create a team that is accountable for the total safety performance of the transportation properties. This new position follows the company’s overall strategy of having a dedicated senior manager responsible for safety in each of its three service segments.

Gibson joined the Watco team in May of 2011 as regional vice president of operations of the Gulf Region. He came to Watco from Genesee & Wyoming, where he held multiple management positions.

He has 15 years of railroad experience with more than 11 years in a management capacity.
