The Jacksonville Port Authority (JaxPort) in Florida has awarded The Dana B. Keynon Company a contract to design and build an intermodal container transfer facility (ICTF) at Dames Point to facilitate the direct transfer of containers between vessels and trains.

“The construction of an ICTF is an absolute requirement for our port to remain competitive and to ensure we are offering the best services to our customers,” said JaxPort CEO Brian Taylor. “We are pleased to partner with The Dana B. Keynon Company on this important project.”

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded JaxPort a $10-million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Discretionary Grant toward the development of the facility and the Florida Department of Transportation allocated $20 million.

With expected completion in 2015, the new facility will provide existing and future customers with enhanced intermodal connections, including direct access to CSX-owned rail lines and the interstate system. The ICTF will also complement existing on-dock rail facilities at JaxPort’s Talleyrand and Blount Island terminals and will further enhance the competitiveness of the Blount Island Marine Terminal and TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point.
