BNSF Railway has announced a new service option to allow intermodal customers to transport freight between Texas and the Pacific Northwest beginning Sept. 12.

The new BNSF service will enable shippers moving consumer goods and commodities between Seattle, Portland, Ore., And Dallas/Fort Worth to see transit times shortened by as much as two days, representatives say.

“We regularly work with our customers to identify and offer new and better transportation solutions to make their supply chains more effective,” said Katie Farmer, group vice president of Consumer Products. “We are constantly looking for opportunities to help meet consumer demands, and this new service checks all the right boxes for adding efficiency to the marketplace.”

Farmer added that BNSF is focused on offering services that boost the “competitive advantage” of U.S. companies through the nation’s supply chain.

Representatives also say the new service beginning Sept. 12 is the first of other additional routes that will launch during the next year, emphasizing that the initial announcement comes just before the fall fruit harvest in the Pacific Northwest.

Quicker and more direct routes will allow agriculture producers to transport their produce to southern markets at the “peak of freshness,” officials say.

Customers can also reach any major Oklahoma or Texas market with a short-haul trucking option to transport containers and trailers moving dry or refrigerated goods from BNSF’s intermodal facility located just north of Fort Worth. Northbound service is said to be faster as well, operating with expedited service arriving on the sixth morning and standard service meeting its destination on the sixth day.

Traffic along the route will operate in both directions on weekdays and the route includes a refueling location along the way for refrigerated equipment carrying temperature-sensitive products, officials say.

The new service offering will provide expedited service to customers aiming to get their shipments to Dallas/Fort Worth on the morning of the fifth transit day, representatives said.
