BART earthquake safety work moves inside West Oakand Station

Written by jrood

Beginning the early part of April, Earthquake Safety Program construction crews will start working inside BART's West Oakland, Calif., Station to strengthen it against earthquakes. Crews will erect scaffolding and enclosures around work areas, which may obstruct your path through the concourse area as you head to the platform or fare gates.

Crews will be adding steel
and concrete to foundations, wrapping columns with reinforcement, and
protecting utilities and equipment. Work will run through fall 2010, mostly between
7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with periodic night work and
emergency work as necessary

Earthquake Safety Program
construction will be underway at various locations throughout the BART system
over the next five years and the agency expects to complete this project by the
end of 2014.
