Belmont Road underpass work picks up in June

Construction on the Belmont Road underpass in Downers Grove, Ill., will resume in June with a two-week closure of the street, according to the Downers Grove Reporter.

The Village of Downers
Grove entered a partnership with the State of Illinois, DuPage County, BNSF and
Metra to construct the Belmont Underpass. The project will reconfigure the
intersection of Belmont Road and the BNSF railroad tracks. An at-grade crossing
will change to an underpass as Belmont Road will be located under the railroad
tracks, according to village officials.

Meg Thomas-Reile,
spokesperson for Metra, said the railroad would install a temporary grade
crossing moving Belmont Road to the east in May. In June, the railroad will be
working on the new pedestrian tunnel and the bridge that will be built over the
new Belmont Road intersection. This work will take place at track 3.
