Work continues on a $2.8-million project to add additional signals to the Caltrain signal system. The work will take place in Redwood City August 24-28 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.
A $2.1-million project to improve the radio communications system that operates the signals and switches on the railroad tracks is under way. The project will add a second radio channel, which will increase the system's capacity. Work will take place August 26 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at several locations near the Diridon and Tamien stations in San Jose.
August 23 -27, crews will weld and grind the switches and replace crossties on the tracks between the Bayshore and Millbrae stations. Caltrain will temporarily close the Fair Oaks Lane railroad crossing in Atherton over the weekend to reconstruct the crossing and adjacent track. Crews also will repave the street. Work will take place from 8 p.m., August 21 until 6 a.m., August 24. Traffic will be detoured via Middlefield Road and El Camino Real to Fifth and Watkins avenues. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.
On August28, worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast will be replaced on the tracks near the San Jose station.
