Caltrain construction, maintenance update Jan. 17-24

Written by jrood

Work on Caltrain's Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at 25 grade crossings in San Mateo County, continues, with work at Main Street, Redwood City, Jan. 18 - 21; Watkins Avenue, Atherton, Jan. 18 - 19; and Oak Grove Avenue, Menlo Park, Jan. 20 - 21. Throughout the project area, at least one lane of the impacted street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.

A crew will be working on
the signal system near Stockton Avenue in San Jose, just north of the Caltrain
maintenance facility for two next weekends. The work is part of a $2.8-million
project to add additional signals to Caltrain’s signal system. The work will
take place between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., Jan. 15-16 and the same hours Jan. 22-24.
If the work is not completed by Jan. 24, it will continue from 8 p.m. Sunday
until 4 a.m. Monday.

Jan. 17-20, crews will
replace cross ties and resurface the tracks in San Francisco.

On Jan. 22, work will be
done on the tracks that cross Monte Diablo Avenue. Work will take place each
week between the hours of 8 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday. The work is part
of a project to replace the cross ties on the tracks that cross four bridges in
San Mateo. The work will begin on the northbound tracks that cross Tilton
Avenue and proceed south to Monte Diablo, Santa Inez and Poplar avenues, in
that order. After work on the northbound tracks is complete, work will continue
on the southbound tracks, beginning with Poplar Avenue. During the project,
trains may operate on a single track at the Burlingame and San Mateo stations.

Jan. 18-21, crews will weld
switches on the tracks between the Redwood City and Menlo Park stations.
