Caltrain construction, maintenance update, Jan. 23-29

Work on Caltrain's Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at 25 grade crossings in San Mateo County, will continue at the following locations: Main Street, Redwood City, Jan. 24-25; Watkins Avenue, Atherton, Jan. 24-25; Fair Oaks Avenue, Atherton, Jan. 25-28; and Oak Grove Avenue, Menlo Park, Jan. 24 - 25 Throughout the project area, at least one lane of the impacted street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.

A crew will be working on
the signal system near Stockton Avenue in San Jose, just north of the Caltrain
maintenance facility, Jan. 23-24 and 30-31. The work is part of a $2.8-million
project to add additional signals to Caltrain’s signal system.

On Jan. 24, crews replaced
crossties and resurfaced the tracks in San Francisco.

On Jan. 29, work will be
done on the tracks that cross Santa Inez Avenue. The work is part of a project
to replace the crossties on the tracks that cross four bridges in San Mateo. The
work will begin on the northbound tracks that cross Tilton Avenue and proceed
south to Monte Diablo, Santa Inez and Poplar avenues, in that order. After work
on the northbound tracks is complete, work will continue on the southbound
tracks, beginning with Poplar Avenue. During the project, trains may operate on
a single track at the Burlingame and San Mateo stations.

Jan. 25-28, crews will replace crossties on the tracks between the
Millbrae and Hayward Park stations. On Jan. 25, crews will
resurface the tracks between the Belmont and Atherton stations. Jan. 26-28,
crews will resurface the tracks between the Lawrence and Santa Clara stations. Jan.
24-28, crews will weld the switches on the tracks near the San Jose Diridon
station.
