Caltrain construction, maintenance update Nov. 13 – 20

Work on Caltrain's Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at 25 grade crossings in San Mateo County, continues in Menlo Park and Atherton. Work will take place Nov. 15-19 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. at Fair Oaks Lane and Watkins Avenue in Atherton and Encinal, Ravenswood and Oak Grove avenues in Menlo Park. Throughout the project area, at least one lane of the impacted street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.

Work continues on a $2.8-million
project to add additional signals to the Caltrain signal system. A $2.1 million
project to improve the radio communications system that operates the signals and
switches on the railroad tracks is also under way. The project will add a
second radio channel, which will increase the system’s capacity. Work will take
place Nov. 13 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. at various locations on
the right of way.

Nov. 15-19, crews will weld
and grind the switches, and replace worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast on
the tracks near the San Francisco station. Nov. 16-19, crews will weld and
grind the switches and replace worn asphalt, rails, tiles and ballast on the
tracks between the San Bruno and the San Mateo stations.

Nov. 15-19, crews will weld
and grind the switches, and replace worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast on
the tracks between the Belmont and Atherton stations.
