Caltrain construction, maintenance update, Sept. 26 – Oct. 2

Work on Caltrain's Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at 25 grade crossings in San Mateo County, continues at Broadway and Oak Grove Avenue in Burlingame. The work will take place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Throughout the project area, at least one lane of the impacted street will remain open.
Work continues on a $2.8-million
project to add additional signals to the Caltrain signal system. Work will take
place Sept. 28 to 30 in Redwood City and Oct. 2 in Sunnyvale, between the hours
of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.
A $2.1-million project to
improve the radio communications system that operates the signals and switches
on the railroad tracks is under way. The project will add a second radio
channel, which will increase the system’s capacity. Work will took place Sept.
26-27 at several locations near the Diridon and Tamien stations in San Jose.
Through Thursday, Oct. 1,
crews will replace worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast on the tracks between
the San Francisco and San Mateo stations.
From 11 p.m., Friday, Oct.
2 to 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, Caltrain will replace the overhead signal
structure at the Broadway crossing in Burlingame. The structure was damaged in
an earlier accident. Broadway will remain open during the construction;
however, the eastbound lanes to US Highway 101 will be closed and traffic will
be detoured to Oak Grove Avenue. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians
around the construction.
Through Oct. 1, crews will
weld and grind the switches on the tracks between the Belmont and Redwood City
stations. Crews replaced worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast on the tracks
near the Sunnyvale station. On Sunday, Sept. 27 and Friday, Oct. 2, crews will

on the tracks near the San Jose station.
