Cleveland RTA schedules five weekends of rail upgrades

Written by jrood

February 14, 2001 The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is planning five weekends of Blue/Green line closures to perform needed updates to the light rail train system. Replacement buses will pick up and drop off riders at every station on both the Blue and Green Lines on each of these weekends.

Two bridges will be the
main focus of the closures, located between the East 79th Street and
Buckeye-Woodhill stations. Crews from Delta Railroad of Ashtabula will upgrade
the bridges, which were originally built in the early 1900s. Because it is
impossible to repair bridges unless they are entirely shut down, RTA will also
use this time to perform additional maintenance and upgrades to the light-rail
system.

The weekend closures will
be Sept. 24-26, Oct. 15-17, Oct. 22-24, Oct. 29-31 and Nov. 19-21. Cleveland’s
Ingenuity Fest is Sept. 24-26.
Adjusted routes and
additional service
will
be provided to the Detroit Superior Bridge for events during this weekend.
