U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood has appointed Joe Calabrese to a two-year term on the Intelligent Transportation Systems Program Advisory Committee. Since 2000, Calabrese has been CEO and general manager of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. He has more than 30 years experience in public transit.

ITS refers to advanced technology initiatives to
improve information and communications systems in the transportation industry,
to better manage customer service, customer information, safety and
efficiencies.

"I know your service will
enhance the value of the committee’s role as a forum for national discussion
and recommendations on ITS activities," LaHood wrote.

The committee, established by Congress, reviews areas on ITS
research being pursued by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and provides
advice on policy matters related to the ITS program.
