Construction at BART’s West Dublin/Pleasanton Station set for June19-20

February 14, 2001 BART and Caltrans will need to close a portion of westbound Interstate 580 in the Dublin/Pleasanton area beginning 11p.m. on Saturday, June 19 through 9 a.m. Sunday, June 20. Ramps from Interstate 680 leading to the impacted segment of I-580 will also be closed. These closures are necessary to accommodate construction crews as they install bridges perpendicular to the highway, which will provide access to the new West Dublin/Pleasanton Station.

"To complete the bridge
installation, we will need to repeat these closures in July as well," BART
Board President James Fang said. "While the I-580 closure may be
inconvenient for a few late-night drivers we hope Tri-Valley residents realize
this is short-term pain for long-term gain. Once completed, the West
Dublin/Pleasanton Station will have 1,200 parking spaces, which means
potentially 1,200 less cars on I-580."

"We will do this work
very late at night on three Saturdays and into the morning hours the following
Sundays as that time frame has the least impact to our community," BART
Board Member John McPartland said. McPartland represents the Tri-Valley area.

The next I-580 closures for
the eastbound direction are planned for July 10 and 11 and then again on July
17 and 18. While segments of I-580 and the I-680 ramps are closed, drivers will
need to use the designated street detours.
