Dana B. Kenyon Co. wins contract for Amtrak maintenance facility

Written by jrood

Amtrak awarded the Dana B. Kenyon Company a $25-million contract for the construction of a maintenance facility located in Hialeah, Fla., near Miami. Construction will begin this spring and will be completed in February 2011.

The project involves the construction of a new
building structure to cover work currently performed completely outdoors and
will include administrative offices and employee locker rooms. The 58,000-square-foot
building is 920 feet in length with eight service bays varying from 100 to 140
feet in length. A single track and service trench will run through the building,
allowing train cars to pass through for maintenance.

The upgrades to the east coast facility will
dramatically improve the capacity, efficiency and working conditions of the
shops that perform inspections and maintenance of Amtrak’s passenger rail
equipment used in long-distance and state-supported corridor services.
