On April 27, employees of Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad chose to be represented by the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division - International Brotherhood of Teamsters. After the National Mediation Board had reviewed the validity of the authorization cards, the BMWED was certified to represent the 277 DM&E maintenance of way employees.

The DM&E Railroad is owned and operated by the Canadian Pacific Railroad and operates throughout several States from Wyoming to Illinois with headquarters in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The DM&E employees will be represented by the BMWED - Unified System Division, which represents more than 5,000 railroad workers at Union Pacific, a number of shortline railroads and the Wyoming Nortrak Plant, and is headquartered in Lyman, Wyo.

Unified System Division General Chairman Wayne Morrow offered, "I'm excited about the prospect of working with our newest members at DM&E. Now it's time to begin the hard work of sitting down with management and working out a good first contract."
