Gary Newgard, Mary Schofield Nowee join Parsons Brinckerhoff

Gary Newgard and Mary Schofield Nowee have been named senior supervising architects in the San Francisco office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, planning, engineering and program/construction management organization.

In his new position, Newgard
will initially focus his efforts on two significant transportation projects:
the California High-Speed Rail project and the San Francisco Central
Subway/Third Street Light Rail project. Newgard has more than 36 years of
experience in architecture, including more than 10 years in the design of
transit and transportation facilities in the U.S. and abroad. He has served as project
manager for public transportation projects for the Bay Area Rapid Transit
District, the City of Palo Alto, City of Covina and the University of
California at San Diego.

Outside the U.S., he served
as architectural manager for the southern section of the Kowloon Canton Railway,
West Rail Project in Hong Kong, managing development of architecture for the
Nam Cheong station and West Kowloon passenger terminals. In Taiwan he was lead architect
for two sections of the Taipei Mass Rapid Transit system, as well as chief architect
for the Kaohsiung MRT.

Newgard holds a bachelor of
architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

In her new position, Nowee
will serve as specifications manager for the California High Speed Rail project
in charge of managing the writing of standard specifications, managing the
specifications for the design-furnish-install systems contracts, and
establishing guidelines for special provisions to be prepared by regional
consultants and design-builders

Nowee has more than 35
years of architectural experience with an emphasis on managing transportation
and transit projects. Prior to joining PB, she served as a specifications manager
and senior architect for a national engineering firm, where she worked on a
variety of projects on behalf of BART, Caltrain and Metrolink commuter rail
systems, and the Dallas and Santa Clara Valley light rail systems. From 1992 to
2000, she served as a senior specifications engineer with PB, working on
transportation and transit projects in San Francisco, Oakland, Millbrae and San
Jose.

Nowee holds a B.Arch.
degree from California Polytechnic State University. She is a Fellow of the
Construction Specifications Institute and former president of its East
Bay/Oakland Chapter. She is also a member of the Women’s Transportation
Seminar.
