John E. Barrett honored with SEAOI’s John Parmer Award

John E. Barrett, P.E., S.E., vice chairman of Bowman, Barrett & Associates (BB&A), was honored with the John Parmer Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI). The award is presented each year to a structural engineer in recognition of outstanding contributions in the field of structural engineering whose distinguished career is acknowledged by peers to be an example of excellence.

As
the co-founder (along with Louis Bowman) of BB&A, Barrett has 60 years of
experience in the industry, and has led hundreds of projects to become one of
the nation’s foremost experts on railroad bridge design.

Barrett is a Life Member of the American Railway
Maintenance-of-Way Engineering Association, Past Chairman of Committee 15:
Steel Structures and currently a member of Committee 9: Seismic Design for
Railway Structures. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers,
and a member of SEAOI, among other organizations. He is an Illinois Licensed
Structural Engineer and a Licensed Professional Engineer in 16 states.
