Long Beach seeks input on port expansion plan

Written by jrood

The Port of Long Beach will host a series of public meetings to solicit community input on plans to expand a staging area for double-stack trains. The staging yard is in the vicinity of 9th Street and Pier B Avenue. The goal of the expansion is to increase the on-dock rail usage in the harbor.

In addition, the port of Long Beach along with the port of Los Angeles,
will continue to pursue expansion of Union Pacific’s Intermodal
Container Transfer Facility, located about 4.5 miles from the harbor,
and construction of a near-dock facility that BNSF Railway plans to
build adjacent to the ICTF. Trucks shuttle containers from marine
terminals to those near-dock yards.

Long Beach’s Pier B On-Dock
Rail Support Facility is closer to the harbor and trains operated by
Pacific Harbor Line will shuttle rail cars there.
