Maryland Transit doing track repairs on light rail near Camden Yards

Written by jrood

The Maryland Transit Administration said that track repairs on Howard Street would require the Light Rail line to be taken out of service between the Camden Yards and Cultural Center stops between July 5 and July 10. During this time shuttle buses will serve stops between Camden Yards and Cultural Center.

The shut down was timed to
take advantage of the short holiday week when Light Rail ridership is reduced.

MTA
recommends that Light Rail customers headed downtown consider transferring to
Metro Subway at State Center/Cultural Center.

Repairs planned during
this temporary disruption to Light Rail service include removal of an out-of-service
track switch. MTA also will take the opportunity to prepare for a project to
relocate the southbound Lexington Market Light Rail stop from north of Fayette
Street to north of Lexington Street and install foundations for new catenary
poles that will replace the arch structures that once spanned Howard Street.
Catenary poles support the overhead wires that provide power for Light Rail
trains.

Relocation of the stop and replacement of the arches is part of a
comprehensive plan called the Howard Street Revitalization, a joint project of Baltimore
City, MTA and the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Additional improvements
scheduled for later this year include replacement of bus and Light Rail
shelters along Howard Street and landscaping of Howard Street between Baltimore
and Fayette streets.
