Metra sets meetings for SouthEast Service, starts Winnetka work

Written by jrood

The final round of public meetings for the Metra SouthEast Service Alternatives Analysis study in northeastern Illinois are set for Sept. 22 and Sept. 28. The meetings are an opportunity for the public to provide feedback on the proposed Locally Preferred Alternative identified in the SouthEast Service Alternatives Analysis Study. The proposed 33-mile SouthEast Service is a new transportation line that would link close to 20 communities in the south Suburban Cook and Will counties. Meetings are open to the general public and are ADA accessible.

Also, on September 13,
Phase II of the Winnetka, Ill., Station rehabilitation project will begin. After
the morning rush, the stairways at Oak Street will be closed and commuters will
be directed to use the new stairways up to Elm Street in the evening.

The recently rehabbed station
will also open on this date. However, commuters will not be able to access
directly from the station to the platform level until Phase 2 is completed,
sometime in late November or early December. The only entrance available to the
platforms will be via the Elm Street stairways.

ADA access to the platforms
will not be in place at this time. Commuters with disabilities are still urged
to use the nearest accessible station, which is in Kenilworth.
