Metro to hold workshops for Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Light Rail

Los Angeles Metro will hold several station area planning community workshops for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor project beginning October 28 that will include an update on the evaluation of maintenance facility locations for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project.
The six upcoming meetings
for the 8.5-mile light rail alignment will provide an update on the project,
discuss input received during the past workshops and present new information on
station alternatives, station area planning, streetscape and landscape design
concepts as well as an update on the maintenance facility site evaluation.
Metro is evaluating
several maintenance facility sites for this new light rail line. An
Environmental Assessment/Revised Draft Environmental Impact Report that focuses
solely on maintenance facility issues is scheduled to be available for public
review and comments later this year. The document considers four sites along
the future rail line in the LAX area and the South Bay.
The Crenshaw/LAX Transit
Corridor will be 8.5 miles in length from the Metro Green Line to the Expo Line,
now under construction, at Crenshaw and Exposition Boulevards, with a travel
time estimated at 20 minutes. Funding for this project will come from Measure
R, the half-cent sales tax initiative approved by Los Angeles County voters on
November 2008 to improve the region’s mobility and create the transportation
infrastructure needed to help resolve local traffic congestion, air pollution
and enhance economic development.
