MTA LIRR breaks ground on “green” train wash facility in Babylon, N.Y.

February 14, 2001 On May 21 at 10:30 a.m., Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams joined Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino, State Senator Owen Johnson, State Assemblyman Phil Boyle and Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley at a press conference and groundbreaking ceremony for LIRR's new Babylon Train Wash Facility.

The Babylon Train Wash’s
design boasts a "green" list of sustainable features, including
architectural and structural, HVAC, plumbing, wash equipment and renewable energy.
The project is funded by $25.5 million in federal American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus money through the Federal Transit
Administration of the Department of Transportation.
