New York MTA appoints special advisor for West-of-Hudson transit needs

Written by jrood

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said that MTA Chairman Jay H. Walder appointed Susan G. Metzger as senior policy advisor, effective immediately. Dr. Metzger, who is a member of the MTA Board, will advise the MTA on cost-effective ways to improve mobility within and to Orange and Rockland Counties.

Dr. Metzger’s new
position is unpaid. Her portfolio will include an array of large-scale,
complex, multi-agency transportation improvement projects that are currently in
the planning stages:

• Metro-North
Railroad service to Stewart Airport.

• The Access to the
Region’s Core (ARC)/Trans-Hudson Express (THE) Tunnel project being undertaken
by NJ Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

• The Tappan Zee
Bridge replacement project being undertaken by the New York State Department of
Transportation, the New York State Thruway and MTA Metro-North Railroad

• Other transit
opportunities west of the Hudson River

"I am making this
appointment in recognition of Susan’s particularly valuable professional
background and her already substantial contributions to the MTA Board,"
Chairman Walder said. "The combination of her decades-long career in
planning and environmental engineering, coupled with her strong advocacy for
expanding service to benefit our West-of-Hudson customers, make her the right
choice for this assignment."

"I applaud Chairman
Walder on his appointment of Susan Metzger as Senior Policy Advisor to the
MTA," said Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana. "As Chair of the
Orange County Planning Board, Susan’s understanding of planning,
infrastructure, and the environment has proven invaluable to the development
and growth of our County. I am confident that she will share that same insight
and dedication in her new role with the MTA, while she continues to advocate
for the transit needs of Orange County."
