NJDOT to replace NJ Transit bridges

The New Jersey Department of Transportation will be closing Sixth Street in Newark as construction progresses on a project to replace the Third Street, Fifth Street, Sixth Street, Seventh Street and Roseville Avenue bridge decks over the NJ TRANSIT Morristown line in Newark, the Star Ledger reports.
NJDOT recently reopened the
newly reconstructed Third Street Bridge to traffic, but will be closing the
Sixth Street Bridge from Orange Street to Seventh Avenue August 17. Traffic
will be diverted to Seventh Avenue to Second Street to Orange Street to Sixth
Street.
The $13.5-million project,
which began in October 2007, includes drainage improvements, resurfacing,
sidewalk installation and curb placement on the approaches to the Third Street,
Fifth Street, Sixth Street, Seventh Street and Roseville Avenue bridges. To
date, both the Third and Fifth Street bridges have been replaced. The Seventh
Street bridge remains closed to traffic for construction, and work recently
began on the western sidewalk of the Roseville Avenue Bridge.
In addition, NJDOT will
upgrade traffic signals at the bridge approaches and at the intersections of
Roseville Avenue and Orange Street, Roseville Avenue and Seventh Avenue and
Orange Street and Sixth Avenue. Construction should be completed by fall 2010.
