Written by

VAE Nortrak North America Inc. won a Metra Commuter Service master purchase agreement for rail. The master purchase agreement is for new 115RE and 136RE AREMA rail for a period of 18 months. The first train with 64,000 lineal feet of welded rail will be loaded on a rail train and headed for Chicago for this season's welded-rail-laying program.

In November of 1992 the Nortrak Birmingham plant successfully launched its trackwork business by completing it first SGM frog. Over the years the Birmingham plants have produced frogs for all of the North American Class 1 railroads as well as a multitude of transit authorities including solid, RBM, WBM, MPF, all rail spring, welded spring and RBW frogs.

The Birmingham plants commemorated the completion of the 10,000th frog in April of 2001 and on April 28, 2010 it celebrated the manufacture of the 20,000th frog with an open house and barbecue for customers and employees on the front lawn of the plant.

To commemorate the occasion, Norfolk Southern was presented the 20,000th frog, a 20-136 RBM built for the Roanoke, Va., facility.
