Ohio rail agency OKs grant to help fix local bridge

The Ohio Rail Development Commission approved a $155,000 grant that will pay half the cost of rehabilitating a railroad bridge in Toledo, local newspapers report.

The Wheeling & Lake
Erie swing bridge over the Maumee River, built in 1911, has critical repair
needs that include replacement of an emergency power generator, railroad
president William Callison told the commission before the grant’s approval.
W&LE will match the state funds with $155,000 of its own to repair the
bridge, Callison said.

Wheeling bought the bridge
five years ago from Norfolk Southern for $1 and runs about a dozen trains per
week over it.
